About us › Roots
The name of our startup, "Saphon" has Punic roots. During the Era of the Carthagian Empire (814-146 BC), “Baal Saphon” was known as the divinity of wind as opposed to Eole, the Greco-Roman god of wind. The wind had a strategic importance during that period as the dominance of Carthage over the western Mediterranean Sea was made possible thanks to the power of its maritime fleet. The legacy of Carthage, the homeland of the Great Hannibal, has ever since inspired many generations. As a tribute to such glorious civilizational heritage, Saphon's team is honored to contribute to the revival of the Carthagian's flame by promoting some of its key symbols.
